Church Teaching

The Church draws her faith from Scripture (the Bible) and Tradition (the teachings passed on from the time of Jesus). We need the Magisterium (the task of interpretation entrusted to the bishops in communion with the Pope) to help us interpret both scripture and tradition.

However, as we journey through time, issues arise that weren’t there in the time of Jesus, and so were not written about in Scripture or part of our earlier Tradition. Whether due to new found technologies, or the development of science, or by reading the signs of the times, the Church continues to reflect on its teachings and seeks to explain them. The gradual self-revelation of God is for every time and place.
